Microsoft 365 will receive several updates in the coming months. During its developer conference Ignite, Microsoft revealed its plans for upcoming features for Microsoft 365 and Copilot. The AI assistant Copilot is set to receive multiple updates to ease daily tasks in personal and work life.
Microsoft has introduced twelve new features for Copilot in conjunction with Microsoft 365 apps. These updates can be found in the Ignite Book of News. One of the features that work without additional apps is Copilot Actions. This allows Copilot to handle repetitive tasks that occur at specific times, such as summarizing all emails at the end of the workday or providing a weekly report on the agenda and completed tasks. This feature is now available in the private preview of the AI assistant.
In Outlook, you can ask Copilot to schedule a meeting with another colleague. Copilot will analyze both parties’ calendars to find a suitable time. Additionally, the AI assistant can draft an initial meeting agenda based on the goals you provide. This function is expected to be available by the end of November 2024.
In the future, Microsoft Copilot will also be able to analyze content shared with you via screen sharing in Teams. For instance, you can ask Copilot which products sold most in a sales presentation or have it analyze reactions and chat to create feedback on individual presentation slides. This feature is planned for early 2025.
Copilot will also summarize shared files in Teams before you open them. This feature will be available in group and individual chats by early 2025, allowing you to grasp the essential content of a file quickly and decide on further actions.
Microsoft Teams is expanding its capabilities with live translations. Initially released in a private preview, this feature will help multilingual teams collaborate more effectively. Microsoft Teams can create transcripts of 51 spoken languages and translate them into 31 languages. Additionally, live captions and live transcripts are planned for 2025 across all apps and the web version of Teams.
Next year, Teams will offer meeting summaries. Unlike transcripts, users will receive a condensed version highlighting the key points. This summary will be available in various languages, chosen by each user according to their preference.
