The term “Brainrot” translates to “brain decay” in English. It describes the mental decline people experience from excessive internet use. This term can also refer to content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram that may seem pointless. Recently, this phenomenon has evolved into a new trend called “PDF to Brainrot,” which has gone viral on social media.
In simple terms, PDF to Brainrot involves using AI to convert content from PDF files into videos featuring gameplay from games like Minecraft or Subway Surfers, or clips of color mixing or soap cutting. These videos can be accompanied by soothing music.
On TikTok, these videos with simple gameplay and AI-generated voices presenting content have become very popular. Some accounts have quickly gained millions of followers. Companies and developers are jumping on this trend, and there are now many “PDF to Brainrot” tools that allow users to combine their own content with computer-generated voices, video, and music.
Some tools are designed to speak in Gen-Z slang, incorporating terms like “Skibidi” or “Sigma” into the spoken content. However, users should be cautious about which creators they trust for tool recommendations, as some influencers may be paid to promote specific tools without disclosing it.
It remains uncertain whether this new method of learning is truly beneficial for students. Each person must determine this for themselves. Some people absorb information better when they hear it rather than just reading it.
In a brief test of PDF to Brainrot, we were able to have a PDF read aloud by a male or female AI voice. The video featured Minecraft, Subway, or GTA gameplay, and background music could be added. Interestingly, the German PDF content was translated into English, though the translation was not perfect. On the positive side, after a one-time registration, users can create up to three Brainrot videos for free each week.
Besides Brainrot mode, there is also a quiz mode where the AI asks questions about the PDF content. In raw mode, the content is presented exactly as in the original document.
This trend raises questions about the effectiveness of such learning methods. While the tools offer convenience and entertainment, the educational value is subjective and varies from person to person. As with any new trend, it’s essential to approach it with a critical mindset and evaluate its usefulness based on individual learning preferences and needs.
