Anthropic has announced an update for its chatbot, Claude AI. Users can now set how Claude AI should respond to requests. There are different modes available, such as formal, precise, and explanatory tones. Users can also create custom response patterns by uploading sample content with their preferred communication style.
Personalization is becoming a key factor in the competition for dominance in AI development. Currently, the market is dominated by ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, both of which have a uniform conversational style. However, in business, different communication styles are needed depending on the use case. Anthropic’s move highlights the need to personalize offerings in a crowded market.
Anthropic emphasizes a strong stance on privacy with its new “Styles” feature. The company states that content uploaded by users is not used to train its AI models. A company spokesperson said, “Unlike other AI labs, we do not train our generative AI models on data submitted by users.” This means all material uploaded by users “is not used to train our models.”
Currently, cross-team use of specific communication styles with Anthropic’s chatbot is not yet possible. However, the company appears to be working on more comprehensive enterprise features. Anthropic aims to make Claude AI as efficient and user-friendly as possible across all industries, work processes, and users. Initial successes indicate the potential of the “Styles” function: The Dev-Ops platform Gitlab, a long-time customer of Anthropic, has already integrated the new style adjustments into various business processes.
Taylor McCaslin, Product Lead AI/ML at Gitlab, said, “Claude’s ability to maintain a consistent tone while adapting to different contexts allows our team members to use styles for different use cases, including writing business cases, updating user documentation, and creating and translating marketing materials.”
The introduction of various communication styles represents a strategic shift for the company. While competitors like OpenAI and Google focus on size and performance, Anthropic focuses on adaptability and user-friendliness. This approach could be particularly attractive to large organizations struggling to maintain consistent communication across different teams and departments.
Anthropic’s new feature sends an important signal. It shows a commitment to providing flexible and user-friendly solutions that cater to the diverse needs of businesses and users. As AI continues to evolve, the ability to personalize and adapt communication styles will likely play a crucial role in determining which technologies succeed in the marketplace.
