Nvidia App Performance Issue
The new Nvidia app is causing performance issues for gamers with Geforce graphics cards. According to reports, users might experience a drop in performance even if the app is only running in the background and its features are not actively used.
Tom’s Hardware investigated the issue by testing various games on a Geforce RTX 4060, with and without the Nvidia app installed. The results showed that whenever the app was running in the background, performance dropped by 2 to 12 percent compared to normal levels.
The problem is linked to AI filters within the app. Nvidia has acknowledged the issue and is actively investigating it. However, users can disable these filters themselves to restore performance. This can be done in the Nvidia app settings by clicking on “Features,” then “Overlay,” and finally “Game Filters and Photo Mode.”
Once the game is restarted, performance should return to normal. The reason beta testers did not catch this issue may be due to the varying performance drops, which depend on the specific game and graphics card model.
The new Nvidia app, launched in November 2024, replaces the previous Geforce Experience driver program. It offers enhanced features, including those from the Nvidia Control Panel, as well as new functionalities for Gsync, image and video capture, and game filters. These filters are intended to use artificial intelligence to improve game graphics.
Despite the current issue, the app provides users with more control over their graphics settings without requiring an account.
Conclusion
While the Nvidia app offers new and improved features, the current performance issue caused by AI filters is a concern for gamers. Until Nvidia releases an update to fix the problem, users can manually disable the filters to maintain optimal gaming performance. This temporary solution allows gamers to enjoy their favorite titles without significant performance drops.
