Sony is working on technology that allows the PlayStation to predict your actions. The PlayStation maker has secured two patents that might be implemented for the console in the coming years. The first patent involves an accessory for the PlayStation controller. You would hold the controller like a gun using an attachment and aim between the shoulder buttons. Sony envisions this technology being paired with the PSVR headset to depict the controller as a weapon in the game.
Another patent reveals an AI implementation for the Sony console. The goal is to eliminate lag and cheats in online games. Sony aims to achieve the former by having an AI predict your next actions in games. This would involve a camera observing you and analyzing your actions on the gamepad. Sony believes that the AI would gradually understand the quirks and behaviors of players and execute actions before they would themselves. For example, the AI might press the button to take cover in a shooter game because you are running towards cover, based on previous gameplay patterns.
The second AI patent focuses on identifying cheaters in online games. The AI would disguise itself as a player and participate in a match, making it better equipped to detect cheats during gameplay. Players could express frustration via chat or microphone, prompting the AI to investigate possible causes, such as cheating.
It is still unclear if and when Sony will implement these patents. Companies typically secure the idea for such innovations first and can either implement them themselves or license the idea to other firms. It may take several years before such AI technology is integrated into consoles like the PlayStation.
AI is already changing video games today. Several examples show how AI is currently transforming video games, enhancing gaming experiences, and offering new possibilities for players.
