Abbey: AI-Powered Tool for Organizing and Analyzing Diverse Content

Abbey is a tool that allows users to gather various types of content, such as documents, websites, notes, and videos, into one place and use AI to ask questions about them. This tool is particularly useful for students who want to collect all their course materials and notes in one place and search through them using AI. It can also serve as an interactive knowledge base for companies.

The core feature of Abbey is its “Workspaces,” where users can collect content on a specific topic. It doesn’t matter if the content is personal documents or online material. Users can also use a Chrome extension to add websites to Abbey with a single click.

Abbey can even transcribe YouTube videos and answer questions about them using AI. This means users can include a video of an entire lecture in Abbey and then ask specific questions about the content or search through the AI-generated transcript.

Abbey offers more than just the ability to ask questions. It can generate summaries or list the key points of a video or document with the click of a button. Users can even have these summaries read aloud by an AI voice.

If users can’t think of a specific question about a document, Abbey’s AI can suggest a question. Users can then send the suggested question as is or modify it before sending.

Abbey is particularly interesting for students but can also be helpful during onboarding processes. With a single click, Abbey can create a quiz for any content stored in the tool, allowing users to test their understanding of the topic.

Abbey can be used in two ways: through a cloud instance provided by US Artificial Intelligence, which is currently free to use, or by hosting it on personal hardware as a Docker container. In the latter case, users need to manage their own AI model and can integrate models from OpenAI or Anthropic via APIs.

Companies can integrate their own branding and secure their Abbey instance with a Google login or the open-source login solution Keycloak.

The source code for Abbey is available on GitHub, and private users can make any changes they want. Larger companies are encouraged to contact the creators via email for a usage license, which currently costs only one US dollar as of mid-November 2024.

Abbey combines essential AI features into a user-friendly interface, allowing users to conveniently compile and analyze diverse content on a topic. This makes it a valuable tool not only for students but also for companies seeking a customizable way to make internal knowledge searchable with AI.
