Apple Enhances iWork Apps with AI Features and ChatGPT Integration

Apple AI : Apple Enhances iWork Apps with AI Features and ChatGPT Integration

Apple continues to integrate AI features into its apps and operating systems. The latest versions of the iWork apps now include Apple Intelligence access. Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are available for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS, and can be downloaded for free from the App Store. However, there are still limitations based on regions and languages.

Pages has reached version 14.3 on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It introduces three Apple Intelligence features for text processing: Writing Tools to correct, revise, summarize, or compose text for your document, Image Playground for creating images (limited to drawings and comic-style illustrations), and the option to contact ChatGPT for questions about the document content and to use other OpenAI features.

The spreadsheet application Numbers is now at version 14.3 for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and it also works with texts and images (Writing Tools, Image Playground) and can call ChatGPT. Apple’s PowerPoint competitor, Keynote, is now available in version 14.3 for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. In presentations, you can process texts with Writing Tools and insert images with Image Playground. ChatGPT is also available if Apple’s tools are not sufficient.

As usual, Apple Intelligence requires a US-English language setting on iPhone and iPad and a US App Store account. On Mac, only the US-English language setting is needed. Apple Intelligence does not yet support German, unlike ChatGPT. Image Playground and Writing Tools were previously available in the operating system, but the integration into iWork is now tighter and more accessible. Apple Intelligence in German is expected in Spring 2025.

Keynote is also offered for Apple’s Vision Pro and has been updated. Details of the new features were not initially available in the App Store. However, Apple Intelligence is likely not included, as the headset does not yet have access to it, despite using the M2 SoC.

There has been criticism of Apple Intelligence due to peculiarities in summarizing notifications. Apple’s AI features aim to provide faster access and tighter integration into their suite of productivity apps, enhancing the user experience by leveraging artificial intelligence for text and image processing.

Overall, Apple’s integration of AI into its iWork suite signifies a step forward in making productivity tools more intelligent and user-friendly. However, users outside the US or those using languages other than English may have to wait for broader support. The development of AI features continues to be an area of focus for Apple, promising future enhancements and capabilities.
