Sneaker enthusiasts are always on the lookout for new and unique models. Often, these sneakers remain unworn as collector’s items in their boxes. Whether this will be the case with the new Shoe 1 remains to be seen, but it certainly has an interesting story.
The model is familiar to many Apple users as it appears in the emoji list when searching for “shoe” or “sneaker.” Now, Chinese artist and designer Jose Wong has turned Apple’s running shoe emoji into a real sneaker, as reported by The Verge. The Shoe 1 is sold under Wong’s brand ABCD on their website.
The sneaker’s upper is made of full-grain nubuck leather and mesh. The midsole and heel are cushioned with EVA foam, and the rubber outsole contains five percent recycled material, according to the manufacturer. Additionally, the Shoe 1 features a lace-up closure and reflective details.
Inspired by minimalist Apple design, the inside of the shoe features an “A(BCD)5 processor insole.” However, it contains no real electronics; the insole has a print referencing the A5 chipset used in several Apple iOS devices.
The sneaker is delivered in a “Crazy Big Ass Box,” which refers to the shoebox designed in Apple’s typical minimalist style, reminiscent of the packaging used for iPhones.
The Shoe 1 bears a resemblance to a model from 1988. It looks similar to the New Balance 574 sneaker, first introduced in 1988. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was known for wearing New Balance sneakers, as The Verge explains.
The Shoe 1 is available in sizes 5 to 12 and costs $219.90, approximately 208 euros. Once purchased, there is no return policy, as the seller ABCD excludes returns.
