Bosch : Bosch Unveils AI-Driven Smart Crib and Advances in Automated Driving Technology

The Robert Bosch GmbH is focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing new products. At CES 2025, Bosch highlighted its achievement of 1500 AI patents over five years, contributed by more than 5000 AI experts at Bosch. This is a record for Europe, and Bosch plans to continue this trend. Over 65,000 employees have been trained in Bosch’s “AI Academy.”

AI plays a significant role in developing products for assisted and automated driving, according to Bosch’s managing director, Tanja Rückert. Image processing algorithms using traditional methods and AI are designed to provide a complete understanding of driving scenes. Generative AI is expected to enhance automated driving functions, allowing AI to better respond to changing contexts, such as snow or ice on the road.

In everyday life, micro-electromechanical sensors (MEMS), which are small as grains of sand, play a crucial role. These sensors are found in devices like smartphones, e-bikes, fitness trackers, and cars. They gather data on acceleration, rotation, or temperature, can wake up a smartphone, or activate voice assistants.

A rather curious outcome of these advancements is the smart crib called Revol. It includes sensors, cameras, microphones in an extendable arm, and a multimodal AI agent to assist parents in caring for their newborn.

The smart crib can monitor the baby 24/7. The AI keeps track of vital signs like heart and breathing rates and analyzes sleep patterns. It can detect if the baby is crying or if an object like a toy or blanket is obstructing the baby’s airways. The sensors also measure temperature, humidity, and air quality.

If the newborn has trouble sleeping, the crib can automatically rock the baby to sleep. It also captures special moments and tracks growth. Optionally, it can store the collected data encrypted on Bosch servers.

Bosch plans to launch the Revol smart crib first in China, with a US release in 2026. The smart crib is expected to cost $1200. It is still uncertain if the smart crib will be available in Germany.
