The CES 2025, taking place from January 7th to 10th, is set to bring together the tech industry in Las Vegas. As the first major event of the year, the focus will be on new hardware for artificial intelligence (AI) and the automotive industry, which has become a staple at CES. Other topics include digital health and energy supply technologies.
One of the most anticipated events is the keynote by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on the eve of the official opening. AI remains a central theme at the show, and Nvidia is expected to unveil new gaming graphics cards from its GeForce series. Other chip manufacturers like AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm will also present new products.
The diversity of technology at CES is reflected in the range of keynote speakers. Besides Jensen Huang, appearances by Delta CEO Ed Bastian, Panasonic CEO Yuki Kusum, Volvo CEO Martin Lundstedt, and X CEO Linda Yaccarino are expected. The outgoing German Minister for Digital, Volker Wissing, will also attend the event. Several celebrities and aspiring stars are set to make appearances.
Originally focused on consumer electronics like TVs and audio, CES still showcases new television technologies, though the audio sector is retreating. There will be updates on AV standards, with the HDMI Forum announcing the introduction of HDMI 2.2. YouTube, a Google subsidiary, is working with Samsung to establish the Eclipsa Audio surround sound format.
Notebook manufacturers such as Asus and Lenovo will unveil new devices. There is speculation that Lenovo might launch a notebook with a rollable display, first shown at MWC 2023. New monitors are also expected, with gamers anticipating 4K OLEDs with high refresh rates. Lenovo and Valve are rumored to introduce a handheld console with SteamOS, while Atari and My Arcade plan to release a handheld for retro games.
Last year, the AI gadget “Rabbit r1” gained attention around CES without being displayed at the event. New AI gadgets will likely be a focus again, as AI is pervasive in consumer electronics, home appliances, and smart home devices.
CES is known for its unique gadgets and tech novelties, though not all succeed in the market. Past hits include brewing machines, slot car tracks, and cute AI robots. This year, LG will showcase a lamp that is both a Bluetooth speaker and a 4K projector.
Automakers are also leveraging AI, which has become a major component at CES. BMW is working on new display technology and interior software, while Honda is expected to update its “Honda 0” platform and partnership with Sony. Suppliers like Bosch and Continental will present developments that may enter production in a few years.
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), organizer of the event, expects around 140,000 attendees, nearing pre-pandemic levels of up to 185,000 visitors. The event will officially open with a keynote from Panasonic CEO Yuki Kusum, with numerous events for professionals and media preceding it.
