ChatGPT Introduces Task Planning and Reminder Feature in Beta

ChatGPT : ChatGPT Introduces Task Planning and Reminder Feature in Beta

OpenAI’s ChatGPT introduces a new feature for task planning and reminders. Initially, this feature is available only for subscribers who have the paid models Plus, Team, and Pro. Users need to select “ChatGPT-4o with scheduled tasks” in the web version to use this feature and can then formulate tasks in the chat. ChatGPT seems to be taking a step towards becoming a digital assistant.

The feature is currently marked as beta. In the web view, tasks are created in an overview tab in the left column and can be managed there. According to US reports, ChatGPT can provide reminders at specific times or perform tasks like browsing the web. The chatbot can also suggest creating a task. For example, users can ask ChatGPT to summarize the weather report daily or check monthly if event tickets are available on a website. However, the ability to make the purchase is not planned.

There are also plans for AI agents. OpenAI might release a tool with the codename “Operator” that can use a computer to perform actions on behalf of a person, like writing code or booking trips and tickets. This tool is expected to be released in January as a research preview and through the company’s API for developers. It will be interesting to see if such AI agents help OpenAI better monetize its technology. So far, the subscription business with ChatGPT models has not been very profitable.

When first tested with instructions in German, the AI bot sometimes responded with error messages. Reminders were set up and sent at the desired time only as an email to the address linked to the subscription account. The AI bot was not yet able to become active independently, such as sending a chat message or interacting with external applications like a browser or calendar. Currently, the feature seems a bit raw.

According to a report by Ars Technica, OpenAI intends to use the beta phase to learn more about how users utilize the task feature. Later, the function will also be available in the mobile app and the free version of ChatGPT.
