In a short test, some functions were explored. For instance, if you say, “Reserve a table for two in a cafe in Hanover,” the app or website of OpenTable opens. You can then choose the suggested restaurant or an alternative. You complete the reservation with a final confirmation click. The same process applies to Uber reservations.
You can also use voice commands to play a podcast or music on Spotify or YouTube. However, not all apps are compatible. The assistant cannot navigate apps like Slack or Reddit. But you can write an email or set an alarm. The assistant cannot yet send messages in WhatsApp; it can only open the app.
Perplexity spokesperson Sara Platick mentioned, “We are adding support for more apps and features, so this is just the beginning.”
To access the new assistant, download the Perplexity app from the Play Store and set it as the default assistant in system settings. Grant the assistant access to various system areas. You can then summon the assistant by holding the power button and giving it tasks.
