The AI developer job ranked sixth in growth, following roles like energy manager and employer branding specialist. According to LinkedIn, it has reached a “considerable scale.”

The responsibilities of AI developers include programming, testing, and managing AI software, models, and infrastructure to automate tasks and solve complex problems. Common skills associated with this job are deep learning, PyTorch, and computer vision.

The role is primarily found in three industries: technology, information and internet; IT services and consulting; and business consulting. Most job postings are in the metropolitan areas of Munich, Berlin/Brandenburg, and Frankfurt/Rhine-Main. The gender distribution in this field is 19% women and 81% men.

Regarding salary, data from Gehalt.de indicates that half of AI developers earn between 3,438 euros and 4,862 euros gross per month. A quarter of the professionals earn less, and a quarter earn more. Salary depends on work experience, responsibility, company size, and location.

AI is not a passing trend, and job demand remains steady, as reported by the job platform Stepstone. Companies increasingly seek professionals knowledgeable in AI technologies. Compared to 2019, the number of job postings for AI roles increased by about 46% in 2023. The highest number of AI jobs was recorded in 2022, with a 117% increase compared to 2019.

The shortage of skilled workers is a significant challenge for employers. A strategy for upskilling and reskilling can help secure skilled labor. Companies are encouraged to take proactive measures to address this issue.
