ChatGPT : OpenAI Expands ChatGPT with o3-mini Access and New AI Agents

OpenAI has announced significant updates for ChatGPT, including access to the o3-mini model for all users and the introduction of new AI agents. These updates, presented by CEO Sam Altman, aim to enhance the user experience for both paid and free access options.

One of the major updates is the availability of the o3-mini model to all users, including those who use ChatGPT for free. This model, initially announced in December 2024, offers enhanced performance and context understanding. The rollout of o3-mini is planned for the end of January, allowing more users to benefit from its capabilities without the need for a subscription.

For Plus subscribers, there is now the ability to make up to 100 requests per day using the o3-mini model. This limitation is due to the high costs associated with using the model, which the company hopes to offset through subscription revenue. However, the demand for the Pro subscription has been so high that it has not yet covered the costs, according to Altman.

In addition to model access, Altman provided updates on the development of AI agents. The newly launched tool, Operator, will soon be available to Plus subscribers. Operator combines the visual capabilities of GPT-4o with advanced decision-making and can interact with graphical user interfaces. It is the first of several computer-using agents (CUAs) that OpenAI plans to offer, allowing users to automate tasks such as making reservations, filling out forms, or shopping online.

Currently, only Pro users in the USA can access Operator, but it is expected to become available to more users soon. With custom instructions, users can further optimize these processes. Additionally, tasks can be scheduled for future execution using ChatGPT’s new Tasks feature.

Other AI agents, such as Claude’s computer user mode, enable autonomous actions within a browser. Many tech companies are working on similar AI agent projects. Google, for example, is developing a comparable feature called Project Jarvis. Other notable AI agents include Nvidia’s Eureka Agent, Salesforce’s Agentforce, and Microsoft’s Copilot Vision.

These updates reflect OpenAI’s commitment to expanding the capabilities and accessibility of AI technology. As AI continues to evolve, users can expect more innovative tools and features to enhance their productivity and streamline various tasks.
