OpenAI introduced new features for ChatGPT as part of its virtual event “12 Days of OpenAI,” starting from December 5, 2024. The first announcement was the new language model GPT-o1 and a new subscription plan, ChatGPT Pro, for $200 per month.
After the release of the video AI Sora, an update for the Canvas mode, and the activation of the live video feature, the updates became more subtle. On December 13, 2024, OpenAI showcased two smaller updates for ChatGPT via a video stream.
One of the updates allows users to create project folders to organize chats by projects. These folders can store documents or instructions that ChatGPT can use to complete specific tasks within each project. Additionally, users can color-code these projects for easier differentiation. The project folders are arranged on the left side, where the associated chats are also visible.
OpenAI also announced a new search function that will make it easier to search through ChatGPT chats. This feature is helpful for finding specific information within chats. Furthermore, users can assign found chats to specific projects, and chats can be moved directly between folders.
Examples given by OpenAI during the livestream included a website project and a “secret” Christmas gift list, demonstrating how project folders and the search function can be utilized.
The new features are beneficial for power users who need to manage different projects and stay updated. Plus, Pro, and Team users will have access to these features within the coming days.
These updates aim to enhance the usability of ChatGPT for organizing and retrieving information efficiently, catering to the needs of users who rely heavily on the AI for various projects.
