The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is expected to be unveiled in January 2025, following numerous rumors and leaks that have painted a clear picture of what the South Korean manufacturer will introduce. As in previous years, Samsung is likely to release three or even four different models of the Galaxy S25. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be the only model that visually differs from its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
There is speculation about a fourth model, the Galaxy S25 Slim, which is rumored to be a particularly thin smartphone designed to compete with Apple’s alleged iPhone 17 Slim. The Galaxy S25 Ultra will move away from the angular design of the Galaxy Note era to accommodate the stylus more elegantly. The new Ultra model will have a slightly rounder design while retaining the stylus feature.
The dimensions of the Galaxy S25 Ultra are expected to be 162.8 × 77.6 × 8.2 mm, making it slightly longer but narrower and thinner than the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Despite these changes, the screen size is expected to remain 6.8 inches diagonally, with narrower bezels and a lighter weight of 219 grams, down from the S24 Ultra’s 232 grams.
The Galaxy S25 will have a 6.2-inch display, and the Galaxy S25 Plus will feature a 6.7-inch screen. Both models are expected to have a flat aluminum frame with minimal rounding towards the back. The battery capacity for the S25 Ultra will remain at 5,000 mAh, while the S25 and S25 Plus will have 4,000 mAh and 4,900 mAh batteries, respectively. Charging speeds are expected to remain at a maximum of 45 watts, with the base model possibly supporting only 25 watts. The devices will likely be among the first to feature Qi2 charging technology, similar to Apple’s MagSafe.
There are no significant updates expected for the cameras of the Galaxy S25 series. The 200-megapixel wide-angle camera of the S25 Ultra will use the same Isocell HP2 sensor as its predecessor. The zoom camera setup will also remain unchanged, with a 10-megapixel triple zoom camera and a 50-megapixel periscope camera with five times optical zoom. The ultra-wide camera may receive an upgrade with a new 50-megapixel sensor, potentially improving resolution and image quality.
The Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus cameras will likely remain the same as their predecessors, featuring a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with three times optical zoom, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Improvements in image quality may come from the new processor and software optimizations.
Samsung is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for all S25 models, with a “For Galaxy” variant that is slightly higher clocked than the standard chip. The devices will come with 12 or 16 GB of RAM, essential for running apps and AI tasks. The storage for the S25 and S25 Plus will start at 128 GB, while the Ultra model will begin at 256 GB.
Additional features include water and dust resistance with an IP68 rating, Wi-Fi 7, and a Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint reader. An ultra-wideband chip for digital car keys will likely be exclusive to the Ultra and Plus models. The Galaxy S25 series will run on Android 15 with One UI 7, which is currently in beta testing for the Galaxy S24 series. Samsung is also working on updates for AI features, including a new multimodal AI model called Gauss 2, expected to enhance Galaxy AI functions like “Browsing Assist” and “Call Assist.”
Pricing information suggests that the Galaxy S25 will start at 899 euros for the 128 GB model, the S25 Plus at 1,149 euros for the 256 GB model, and the S25 Ultra at 1,449 euros for the 256 GB model. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumored to be available in “Titanium Black,” “Titanium Blue,” “Titanium Gray,” and “Titanium Silver.”
The Galaxy S25 series is expected to be announced at a Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22, with the official market launch following two weeks later.
