The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is on the horizon, with many rumors and leaks giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. Samsung is expected to unveil the new models during their Galaxy Unpacked event. This year, the focus seems to be on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which will feature a very thin bezel. Like previous years, Samsung is likely to release three or even four different models, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra standing out in design from its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
One of the models rumored to be part of the lineup is the Galaxy S25 Slim, which is expected to be a particularly thin smartphone, potentially competing with Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Slim. The Galaxy S25 Ultra will move away from the angular design of the Galaxy Note era, making it slightly more rounded while still accommodating the stylus.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be slightly larger than its predecessor, measuring 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2 mm, compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s dimensions of 162.3 x 79.0 x 8.6 mm. This change suggests a possible alteration in the aspect ratio. The screen size of the Ultra model will be 6.9 inches, a slight increase from the previous 6.8 inches, with narrower bezels. The phone’s weight is expected to be reduced to 218 grams, 13 grams lighter than the S24 Ultra.
Improvements are anticipated in the anti-reflective coating of the Ultra’s display, already known for its excellence in the S24 Ultra. However, the screens of the other models, the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, will remain unchanged, with sizes of 6.2 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively.
Regarding batteries, the S25 Ultra will maintain a 5,000 mAh capacity, similar to the S24 Ultra. This is disappointing as other manufacturers have increased their battery capacities using silicon-carbon technology. The S25 and S25 Plus will feature 4,000 mAh and 4,900 mAh batteries, respectively. Charging speeds will remain at a maximum of 45 watts, with the base model possibly supporting only 25 watts. The devices are expected to be among the first to feature Qi2 charging technology, similar to Apple’s MagSafe.
In terms of cameras, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will not see a radical update. The 200-megapixel wide-angle camera will use the same Isocell HP2 sensor as before. The zoom cameras will also remain unchanged, with a threefold zoom of 10 megapixels and a periscope camera of 50 megapixels with fivefold optical zoom. The ultra-wide camera is expected to receive an upgrade to a 50-megapixel Isocell JN3 sensor. The cameras of the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus will remain similar to their predecessors, with a 50-megapixel wide-angle, a 10-megapixel telephoto with threefold optical zoom, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
Samsung is likely to use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for all S25 models, with a special “For Galaxy” variant that is slightly higher clocked. The devices will come with 12 or 16 GB of RAM, necessary for normal operations and AI tasks. The S25 and S25 Plus will start with 128 GB of storage, while the Ultra model will start at 256 GB.
The Galaxy S25 series is expected to run Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 7. Samsung is working on updates for AI features, with the new Gauss 2 AI model expected to enhance Galaxy AI functionalities. Google’s Chatbot Gemini might also be included, offering a free trial period for up to a year.
Price-wise, the Galaxy S25 is expected to start at 899 euros for the 128 GB model, with the S25 Plus starting at 1,149 euros for 256 GB, and the S25 Ultra starting at 1,449 euros for 256 GB. The official announcement is set for January 22, during Samsung’s Unpacked event in San José.
