The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is on the horizon, with the release date set for January 22. Samsung is expected to unveil three or even four different models, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra being the standout in design compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This is indicated by CAD renderings which show a design evolution for the Ultra model, while the S25 and S25 Plus remain similar to their predecessors.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature a more rounded design compared to the previous generation, moving away from the angular style reminiscent of the Galaxy Note, while still incorporating the stylus. Its dimensions are expected to be 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2 mm, making it slightly longer, narrower, and thinner than the S24 Ultra. The display will maintain a 6.8-inch diagonal but with narrower bezels and a reduced weight of 219 grams, down from the S24 Ultra’s 232 grams.
The screens of the other models will see little change, with the Galaxy S25 featuring a 6.2-inch display and the S25 Plus a 6.7-inch display. Both will have a flat aluminum frame with slight rounding towards the back. Despite the unchanged dimensions, the Ultra’s display will have an improved anti-reflective coating, enhancing its already excellent performance.
In terms of battery, the S25 Ultra retains a 5,000 mAh capacity, while the S25 and S25 Plus will have 4,000 mAh and 4,900 mAh batteries, respectively. Charging speeds remain the same, with the Ultra supporting up to 45 watts and the base model up to 25 watts. However, the S25 series will support Qi2 wireless charging technology, similar to Apple’s MagSafe.
Camera upgrades for the S25 Ultra are minimal. It will continue to use a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera with the Isocell HP2 sensor, and the zoom cameras will remain the same with a 10-megapixel triple zoom and a 50-megapixel periscope camera. The ultra-wide camera will see an upgrade to a 50-megapixel Isocell JN3 sensor, promising better resolution and image quality. The S25 and S25 Plus will have a triple camera setup similar to their predecessors.
Samsung will focus on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for the S25 series, with a special “For Galaxy” variant offering slightly higher performance. The devices will come with 12 or 16 GB of RAM, essential for both regular use and AI tasks. However, the S25 and S25 Plus will start with 128 GB of storage, while the Ultra begins at 256 GB.
The S25 series will ship with Android 15 and One UI 7, featuring new exclusive software enhancements. Samsung is working on updates for AI features, with the introduction of the Gauss 2 multimodal AI model, similar to Google’s Gemini. This model will come in three sizes: “Compact,” “Balanced,” and “Supreme,” with the “Compact” version running directly on the smartphone.
Google’s Gemini chatbot will also be included, offering free use for up to a year on the S25 Ultra and a shorter period on the S25 and S25 Plus. Additionally, the S25 models will include features like accident detection, previously available on Pixel and iPhone models.
Pricing for the S25 series is expected to remain stable despite the inclusion of the more expensive Snapdragon chip. The Galaxy S25 will start at 899 euros for the 128 GB model, the S25 Plus at 1,149 euros for 256 GB, and the S25 Ultra at 1,449 euros for 256 GB. The Ultra will be available in colors like “Titanium Black,” “Titanium Blue,” “Titanium Gray,” and “Titanium Silver.”
The Galaxy Unpacked event, where these models will be unveiled, will take place in San José and will be streamed live on Samsung’s platforms. The event promises to showcase the “next chapter of mobile AI,” with new Galaxy AI features designed to provide seamless support in everyday life.
