Sony is working on making the PlayStation predict your actions. The PlayStation manufacturer has secured two patents that could be implemented for the console in the coming years. The first patent is an accessory for the PlayStation controller. You would hold it like a gun with an attachment and aim between the shoulder buttons. According to the patent, Sony aims to pair this technology with the PSVR headset to represent the controller as a weapon in the game.
In another patent discovered by Gamesindustry, a KI (artificial intelligence) implementation for the Sony console is shown. The goal is to eliminate lag and cheats in online games. Sony wants to achieve the first by having a KI predict the next action you will take in the games. A KI would observe you through a camera and analyze your actions on the gamepad.
Sony believes that the KI would gradually understand and replicate the peculiarities and behaviors of players before they do it themselves. For example, the KI might press the button to take cover in a shooter because you are running towards cover and have performed these movements in many previous PlayStation game sessions.
The second KI patent focuses on detecting cheaters in online games. The KI would disguise itself as a player and participate in a match. It would then be better able to detect cheats during gameplay. Additionally, players could express their frustration via chat or microphone. Here too, the KI would be attentive and look for possible causes, such as cheaters.
It is still unclear if and when Sony will implement the patent. Companies typically secure the idea for such innovations first and can then either implement it themselves or license the idea to other companies. In any case, it will likely take several years before such KI technology is implemented in consoles like the PlayStation.
KI is already changing video games today. Various examples show how KI is already transforming video games. This technology is rapidly evolving, and its impact on gaming is significant.
