The Impact of AI on Future Job Markets: Opportunities and Challenges

AI : The Impact of AI on Future Job Markets: Opportunities and Challenges

For several years, there has been a concern among some people that AI could one day make many jobs unnecessary. While such tools are already taking jobs from freelancers, the major impacts of AI on the job market have yet to be seen. However, a survey by the World Economic Forum indicates that this could change by 2030, as many employers plan to increasingly rely on AI by then.

The survey includes plans from 1,000 employers worldwide. According to WEF, these companies together employ over 14 million workers in 22 different industries. AI is a significant topic for employers. About 77% of companies want to thoroughly train their workforce in AI tools by 2030. However, around 40% of all employers are sure that AI will have other effects as well. They will likely replace part of their workforce with artificial intelligence.

The jobs most affected, according to WEF, and expected to shrink the most in the next five years include service workers, bank employees, and cashiers. Positions in graphic design, accounting, and clerical work are also expected to decline significantly. The survey predicts a decrease of about 10 to 30 percent depending on the industry.

Despite these changes, there are expected to be positive developments in the job market, partly driven by AI. Areas where AI is in high demand are expected to grow significantly. Jobs benefiting from this growth include professions in the financial sector, AI specialists, and software and app developers. Overall, this growth is expected to provide about 14% more job opportunities than there are today.

Moreover, not all employers intend to simply replace their employees with AI. Of the approximately 59% of all workers needing AI training in the next five years, 29% will be sufficiently trained in the new tools according to their employers. 19% can continue to work or be trained in other areas despite the AI focus. However, about 11% currently fall through the cracks and may need to find a new job if no other solution is found.

It is important to keep an eye on future professions that may emerge as AI continues to evolve. As the job market changes, staying informed about potential career opportunities is crucial.
